Quick Tip: An ID Tag for Your Camera

Here's a quick and easy tip that could pay for itself a thousand times over.
While at a recent Photwalking Utah event, I noticed that photographer Ann Torrence had a small ID tag attached to her camera. When I asked her about it, she told me that it was a tag designed to put the owner information on pet collars in case the animal is lost. I immediately thought "What a great idea!".
I made a trip to my local PETCO store and used their machine to have a tag made for each of my cameras. I opted for the smallest version (about the size of a penny) and it is completely out of the way on the camera body. The total cost to label my gear: $12.
Now, let's just hope that if my camera is ever lost that the person who finds it is honest (fingers crossed).

I really like this tip actually. I need to get one made myself. It does depend on the honesty of the finder, but one can hope.
I get mine at pettags.com and I order a bunch at a time. I like the rainbow ones. I want my gear to be obviously un-anonymous, because a common strategy is for a thief to casually pick up a camera and act like it belongs to him. A thief would have a hard time removing the pet tags very quickly in public, maybe enough of a deterent to look for an easier target.
these are much better than the Dymo label i stuck to my camera. :D gotta check them out! thanks for the tip!
I am just afraid that people are not going to be honest enough to even return it.
Just want to report... It worked for me. I set my camera on the top of my car and drove off. Someone called me the next day and I got it back. The camera had a small ding on it, but not much else. By the way, I got mine at PetShopTags.com
